There is a strange wall in the craft room that took all of about half a second for me to figure out what to do with it. What would you do with this wall?
For me the answer was simple: Chalkboard Wall!
It just HAD to be done. The room needed it. It is a craft room after all. There was just one some problem to tackle…. The molding in the room. The molding is about 2/3 of the way up the walls and needed to stay in place. This meant that I needed to get creative on how to do a chalkboard wall.
Since I was already putting up a PEGBOARD on another wall I decided to use the same mounting method for a giant press board to create the chalkboard. Doing it this way meant that the board would be lifted off of the wall enough to clear the molding and the knobs attached to the molding.
The bracing boards were easy to attach to the wall. I used 3 inch screws and went straight into the studs. Those boards aren’t going anywhere, anytime soon.
Luckily my friend stopped by to help me get the board attached to the bracing boards. The problem was this board was HUGE and HEAVY! I don’t have photos (or video) of this step but I am positive you all would have enjoyed the hilarity that ensued trying to get the board in the correct position in order to screw it into place.
Finally we managed to get the board in place and I screwed that thing in to the bracing boards while my friend held it in place. I didn’t stop adding screws until we were both confident that it was not going anywhere.
We then filled the screw holes with wood filler.
Sanded (after filler was dried).
Then it was time to paint….
